The Reporter’s Partner: Logistical Support on the Ground

By 6 March 2026No Comments

When a national reporter flies into Kelowna or Kamloops to cover a developing story, they are often stepping into a high-stakes environment with very little lead time. I view my role as far more than just a camera operator; I am a local partner dedicated to the success of the entire field team. I frequently meet reporters directly at the airport to ensure they can hit the ground running the moment they land. By handling the initial logistics and navigation, I allow the reporter to focus their energy entirely on the editorial requirements of the assignment.

My production van is specifically outfitted to function as a mobile news bureau. It features onboard power and high-speed LTE Wi-Fi, which essentially turns the passenger seat into a mobile office for visiting reporters. This allows them to research, write their scripts, and stay in constant contact with their assignment desk while we are in transit between story locations. This level of logistical support significantly increases productivity in the field and ensures that the crew remains connected to the newsroom even in more remote regions of the province.

Having spent a decade in staff newsroom positions, I anticipate the needs of a reporter before they even have to ask. I understand the importance of finding quiet spaces for script recordings and identifying the best visual backgrounds for stand-ups. I work alongside the reporter to ensure that every visual moment supports their specific narrative. When you book Distill Media, you are getting a seasoned professional who knows how to make the field experience as efficient and professional as possible for your entire news team.
